Inspired in Barcelona: Terra Rossa
"Inspired in Barcelona: Terra Rossa" is a collective and conceptual exhibition inspired by the use of clay as a primordial and universal element for the creation of the first design artifacts, common especially in the Mediterranean region.
In line with the theme of the Fuorisalone, Materia Natura, the values of materiality, sustainability and proximity are elevated by creativity as the driving force, resulting in a jubilant celebration of life and craftsmanship. "Inspired in Barcelona: Terra Rossa" creates an ideal scenario to exchange projects and ideas, share a toast, strengthen old bonds, and build new connections.
Curated by Apartamento Studios and Júlia Esqué, the centerpiece of the installation, right in the heart of the Porta Venezia Design District, is a large theatrical pyramid with more than 70 original cantirs (jugs) made specifically for the event. The cantirs - a traditional Catalan terracotta pitcher used for cooling liquids - are the result of the reinterpretation by 15 different designers and artists from Catalonia such as Marc Morro, Robbie Whitehead, Jaume Ramirez, Apparatu and Clàudia Valsells, among others. The artistic "alterations" have been created at the workshop of Eloi Bonadona, ceramic artist recently recognized by the Homo Faber guide.
The event celebrates the fusion of contemporary creative minds, mostly young and very talented, ranging across various disciplines including jewelry, fashion, photography, performance, art, and wine culture. This embrace resonates with the Porta Venezia Design District's initiative, Everythink is design, wherein "Inspired in Barcelona: Terra Rossa" stands out as a quintessential proposition.
The installation is completed by an anteroom where a large jar, kindly provided by ceramist Carles Llarch, is filled with wine, and invites visitors to celebrate the event, and by a versatile central space, set up thanks to collaborations with the best Catalan furniture design brands where it will be possible to sit, gather, or simply take a break during the hectic days of the Milanese festival.
“Inspired in Barcelona: Terra Rossa” is organized by BcD - Barcelona centre de Disseny and promoted by the Government of Catalonia through ACCIÓ - Catalonia Trade & Investment and the Barcelona City Council (Instituto de Cultura de Barcelona - ICUB and Disseny Hub Barcelona - DHub).
In the same exhibition space of Sirtori26, it will be possible to visit concurrently the exhibition "Visions of Catalonia. Designing Craft": everyday objects that aim for innovation, proximity, sustainability, and social commitment. It is a selection of everyday objects made with different disciplines, techniques, and materials ranging from ceramics, paper, carpentry, textiles, natural fibers, or 3D printing. The exhibition, organized by the Consortium of Commerce Crafts and Fashion, is also promoted by the Government of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
